[7.22.2010] YongHwa on Happy Together

Yong was recently a guest on the variety show Happy Together. While there, he was asked about having a phone. There have been several recent news about the CNBlue members not having any cellphones phone. The initial reason was because they were working in Japan and voice calls between Korea and Japan can be expensive.

It seems though that things have now changed and Yong does indeed have his own phone sponsored by Sony Ericsson** . So who does Yong call?

Yong hwa: This is really embarrassing...
(You can see Yonghwa and Simon D are embarrassed by this request. They are both ‘Busan’ guys and Busan guys don’t respond very well to this kind of toe-curling thing.)

MC Shin: I told my hairdresser that I’m going to meet Yonghwa today, so I asked her if there are any questions she wants me to ask him. I heard that you habitually lick your lips during the performance?
Yong hwa: Ah... it’s a habit when I sing. I can’t sing very well when my mouth feels dry. So I lick my lips from time to time. One day I did it when I was singing ‘I’m a loner’ and it was captured on camera. Once my fans saw this, they liked it very much saying it’s seductive (the actual word he used was ‘he’s drilling us (joryun hada)’ it means something like ‘playing hard to get’. So it’s like his lip-licking has a kind of sex appeal to his fans). So every now and again I do that when I feel I need to spice things up, even when singing ‘Love’ . 

MC Yoo: Yong and Simon D, both of you answered “No” (to the question, ‘Have there been other celebrities trying to hit on you?’)
MC Park (the female host of WGM): ‘But why you haven’t had any, Yonghwa?’
Y: Seriously, it never happened. I don’t even have a mobile phone. I’ve recently got one for doing a commercial. I only use it for keeping in contact with my parents, hardly carry it with me.’
MC P: Do you have any female celebrities’ cell numbers in your phone?
Y: No. I only have the numbers of my manager and PR company so far.
MC P: Really? Not even Seo Hyun’s?
Y: Of course, I have her phone number.

MC P (whispering to a person next to her): Don’t you think they (Y&H) are so cute together?

MC Y: I heard that you don’t like women with moustaches?
Y: Yes, especially when the woman looks beautiful from distance, but once you get closer you see blackish hairs...
MC P: Do women have moustaches? (others said ‘Yes, you have one, too’ blah blah~)
Y: I had a crush on this girl who I met at kindergarten and I met her few years later. The first thing I noticed was that her thick moustache was so visible!

Translator's notes: I changed 'I do have her phone number' to 'Of course I have her phone number'. There's a subtlety in his response to the question so I had trouble over whether should I put 'of course' in his answer. He didn't explicitly use the word 'of course', but he put '~neun' every time he mentions Hyun and her phone number, kind of separating her from previous topics (other celebrities hitting on him and whether there are female celebrities' phone numbers in his mobile). I think this is what made other pannels (esp.female ones) squeal, because you can see Yong thinks about Hyun differently from other female celebrities whom he comes across in his work. MC Park nailed it saying 'Don't you think they are so cute/adorable together?'
