120207 [News] CNBLUE re-writes Oricon’s history after 41 years

Four-member band CNBLUE became the first foreign band in 41 years to top Japan’s Oricon’s weekly single chart.

CNBLUE‘s second major Japanese single, “Where You Are,” topped the weekly chart by achieving a record sales of over 60,000 copies within the first week of its release on 1st February. According to Oricon, this is the first time for CNBLUE, a foreign band to top the weekly single chart since the Canadian band, “Mashmakhan”, did with their 1971 single, “As the Years Go By”, after 41 years and 1 month.

This new single includes “Where You Are,” written and composed by Jung Yong Hwa, “Feeling”, and  “Get Away” which is composed by fellow member Lee Jong Hyun.

CNBLUE‘s Japanese major debut single, “In My Head,” sold over 100,000 copies October last year and was being recognized as a gold level record by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. They also became the first Korean artist to perform at the “MTV Unplugged” concert in Japan earlier this year. Also, 12,000 fans attended their “Where You Are” celebratory live events on the 4th and 5th earlier this month.
CNBLUE will kick off their Japanese fan club live tour starting February 13..

Note: Mentioned in the article was the Oricon Single Chart, while FT Island topped the Oricon Daily Album Sales Chart back in May 2011. :D

CNBLUE breaks a new record in Oricon Charts with new single

CNBLUE's second major single "Where You Are" broke a record in Japan's Oricon Charts. The original record remained unbeaten for the past forty years. Having just released the single last February 1st, CNBLUE took the number one spot on Oricon's Weekly Chart after selling more than 60,000 copies in their first week.

According to reports, this is the first time that a foreign rock band has topped the weekly chart since 1971. At the time this feat was achieved by Canadian rock band Mashmakhan with the track "As The Years Go By."

Other Korean acts and groups who have topped the Weekly Single chart are TVXQ, JYJ's Jaejoong and Yoochun's duet and Jang Geunsuk. However, compared to the mentioned Korean pop artists, CNBLUE managed to top the charts as Korean band, who play their own instruments.

CNBLUE's second single "Where You Are" is composed by the group's frontman Jung Yonghwa. Other tracks included in the new release are "Feeling" and "Get Away", which was composed by Lee Jonghyun.
