Enjoy Dubu Dubu's Seoul food
SPECIAL:Dubu Dubu, a franchise of Korean cuisine, arrives here with its signature dish, ‘soondubu jigae’
‘Soondubu jigae’ is served piping hot with a bowl of special Dubu Dubu rice and three ‘banchan’ (side dishes).
A RESTAURANT that goes by the name of Dubu Dubu will certainly get people talking. To the unknown, Dubu Dubu sounds cute but, in fact, in Korean, it simply means tofu.
A new kid on the block at Mid Valley Megamall, Dubu Dubu is a fast-growing international franchise popular for its authentic Korean dishes served in a comfortable environment.
Dubu Dubu's first outlet here is operated by CRDubu Malaysia Sdn Bhd. All the Korean dishes on the menu are prepared by staff who had undergone strict franchisee training in Korea.
CRDubu Malaysia executive director Wong Kah Yong said the popularity of Korean food is expanding as fast as its pop culture.
"We are confident that Dubu Dubu, being a place that caters to all Malaysians, will become a choice destination for those who love Korean food.
"At Dubu Dubu, ingredients that are essential to Korean dishes, such as tofu, bean paste, chillies and garlic, are combined with fresh meat, seafood and vegetables to create mouthwatering dishes," he said at the launch of the restaurant recently.
Dubu Dubu, he added, also banks on the affordability and big portions of its dishes.
Wong said its signature dish called soondubu jigae would certainly be able to pull in the crowds as the soup dish is hardly found in Korean restaurant menus in Malaysia.
The naturally fragrant, flavourful and rich broth of soondubu jigae is made from beef and chicken bones that have been boiled over two days.
"Every bowl of soondubu jigae is prepared once we receive an order. We'll throw in the ingredients to soak up the flavour of the broth, and then add in chilli which has been ground into powder.
"We serve the broth piping hot with a choice of meat or seafood, and silky smooth tofu. It comes with a bowl of special Dubu Dubu rice and three banchan (side dishes) of the day," he said.
In line with its restaurants name, Wong said 70 per cent of the dishes featured in the menu are served with tofu.
Another must-try is the dol sot bibimbap, a staple Korean dish, served with beef or chicken topped with a variety of nutritious vegetables and kimchi arranged on top of fluffy white rice in a heated earthen bowl.
The wholesome meal is topped off with an egg and best savoured with the special Dubu Dubu spicy sauce, which accentuates the harmony of its flavours.
Diners should also order the beef bulgogi dish, which also comes with three banchan.
The other offerings at Dubu Dubu are pa-jeon (Korean pancake), grilled fish ball, kimchi, cheese toppokki (rice cake) and japchae (glass noodles). Those with a sweet tooth can try out desserts such as citron dubu and dubu dubu bingsu.
While diners enjoy their Korean meals with friends and family, they can also watch Korean pop music videos on several televisions mounted on the walls of Dubu Dubu.
Dubu Dubu, located on the lower ground floor of the mall, is open from 10am to 10pm daily.
It is in the process of obtaining its halal certification.
